Vicar’s Corner

Dear Friends,
"We are the Pro-Life generation" ... This was just one of the many signs that could be seen on Constitution Avenue last Friday for the annual March for Life. With the exception of last year due to COVID, hundreds of thousands flock to our nation's capital year around mid-January to show support for the unborn, for the sanctity of all human life. The media typically down plays the number of people who attend making it seem like it is not a big deal. I assure you that this is a big deal! From the moment of conception to natural death, life is sacred. We have an inherit duty to protect and defend all human life, to care for one another and support each other's dignity. For the last 43 years, the March for Life has done just that!

In my experience at the March over the years one thing in particular stands out - this is no ordinary protest. Yes, there are signs. Yes, people are loud. Yes, there are speeches. But no one is angry. No one is shouting at the opposition or pointing fingers or making slanderous comments. No one is breaking into buildings, smashing windows or stealing. The atmosphere has always been joy-filled. This year in particular seemed more so than ever. Why? Because life brings joy. When we are able to see just how precious life is, how sacred life is, we begin to see how joyful life can be ... because at the very heart of life is the Creator. When we place God at the center of our lives we begin to have to a deeper vision of the sanctity of life and the Communion to which He beckons us with Himself. At that vision, we begin to want it for others. This is what I witnessed last Friday. Not an angry mob but a gathering of people who want the nation and world to see God, to see life, and find in it the joy of living.

"We are the Pro-Life generation" ... May we live up to these words in how we show our support for women and men in crisis pregnancies, by supporting organizations like Alternatives Pregnancy Center, by being a voice of truth, goodness and love.
God bless you,
Fr. Jon
