Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
We have arrived at Palm Sunday for our Lenten journey. Our Lenten Devotional that was passed out for the first week of Lent is a Lenten Devotional that was constructed by the members of Young and Catholic, a ministry that serves young adults in the Diocese. The key theme in all of the Lenten Devotional was humility. Humility is a virtue that helps us to see ourselves as God sees us. Humility helps us to realize that all we have is a gift from God, and so we ought to express this realization through gratitude every day and every time we pray.

Jesus expresses his humility by embracing the ultimate sacrifice, namely His death on a cross. He did not run from this fact that there needed to be reparation for sin and God so loved the world that he sent us His only Son to die for us. Jesus in his humility did not deem equality with God, something to be grasped. But rather, he embraced His suffering on the cross, which set us free from the effects of sin. Are we grateful, have we meditated on this closely this Lent? Are we ready to journey with Him deeply through the triduum of the Last Supper, Good Friday and celebrate His rising?

Holy Week is a week of grace. The most Holy of weeks during the year. I would encourage you to finish your Lenten observance strong. Do something for the poor, give extra to your parish, abstain from certain activities you like to partake in. And above all, meditate more closely on the humility of God and give thanks.
