Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
We just had our Holiday Craft Fair this Saturday. It was a neat experience. Personally, I was getting excited during the week as we made the final preparations for the Craft Fair. And yes, I received my own batch of pierogis from Louise Bartos. It was a nice event that brings the Parish and the greater community together and my sincerest thanks goes out to everyone involved, particularly to Mary Ellen Stokarski who helped coordinate this effort. Also, thank you for your donations, the volunteering you did to help wrap up all the gifts and your presence there simply spoke volumes. Lastly, thank you for allowing me to sell Year of the Eucharist Shirts. It was a fun way to help serve the Parish.

This week, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. This is an important Solemnity, because as we hold our government in high regard, we are reminded that we are called to place Christ as the King of the Universe. This implies that we place Christ in the center of our lives, and He reigns on the thrones of our hearts. At the end of the liturgical year, our readings that we read have been apocalyptic in nature. This helps us to understand that there is more to this life, and we are called to look more beyond into the greater order of the Universe, we look toward our final destination into heaven.

A stumbling block to understanding Christ the King is the fact with this title, Jesus comes across as a stubborn ruler who has us as His subordinates and is an angry task master. However, our King wears a crown of thorns, and His life is marked by service, healings, miracles and by His suffering. By His wounds we are healed. He did this freely out of love for us. He is crazy in love with us. St. Catherine describes this as pazzo d’amore. We can find ourselves asking why? It is because His love for us is irrational, it doesn’t make any sense, and love requires a response. When we come to Mass, we give Him due honor and respect, because it is right and just. As we find the words for a response, may we respond with similar words by St. John Paull II, I am totally yours.

God bless you this week and always.

Sincerely Yours,
Fr. David Aufiero
