Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
Last weekend I spoke about Blessed Carlo Acutis. He was named the patron saint of the first year of the Eucharistic Revival by Bishop Andrew Cozzens, the USCCB Evangelization and Catechesis Committee chair. He will also be the patron saint for the Eucharistic Congress here in the Diocese of Springfield on March 4, 2023.

Blessed Carlo Acutis was born in 1991 and lived a pretty typical life. He loved movies, skiing, played soccer and video games. At age seven, he greatly anticipated his First Holy Communion because the Eucharist was the center of his life. Later on, he became a Catechist and became deeply fascinated with Eucharistic Miracles. Many who have witnessed them were enthralled with his research and were transformed. Blessed Carlo died of leukemia in October 12, 2006. He maintained a positive attitude in the face of a difficult illness, and encourages us to face life’s difficulties with courage.

This weekend, his relic will be on display at the University of Massachusetts Newman Catholic Center, located at 472 N. Pleasant St. for four days. Saturday October 29 through Tuesday November 1. On Saturday, it is on display from 9am- 5pm, and Sunday through Tuesday, it is on display from 9am to 9pm. It is worth seeing. When you venerate a relic, there have been many stories of healing and conversion. No matter where you find yourself in the faith, it is a worthwhile experience, because knowledge of Eucharistic Miracles engages our faith.

Also, last weekend, we had a special confirmation retreat. Many of our catechetical leaders in Franklin County worked together to put on a confirmation retreat for our teens in the area. It went really well. A special thanks to the St. Anne’s Society for providing us with breakfast food, granola bars and coffee for the volunteers. Also, a special thank you to the Knights of Columbus for providing our teens with lunch from Holiday Pizza. We could not ask for a better day, and looking forward to many more opportunities to engage our youth. Thank you for all your prayers and looking forward to seeing you around.

Blessings to you and your families.
