Pastor’s Corner

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It’s about prayer!

This Sunday’s Gospel instructs us to pray unceasingly. Jesus gives an example about a judge who neither feared God nor respected any human being was asked repeatedly by a widow to render a decision against her adversary. And although he neither feared God nor respected any human being, he answered her prayer because it would be the death of him if he did not.

This is kind of a grim example, but our Lord draws a comparison and a sharp contrast between this judge and with our Heavenly Father. Jesus comes to proclaim the good news about heaven, about God and about our salvation. We should be persistent with our prayers to God.

Have you ever prayed and wondered why you just don’t get what you want? So many of us get bogged down and frustrated because we are not getting what we want. God does not always give us what we want in the moment. In the moments where we are waiting, we have to arrive at patience and persistence in our request. The times where we are seemingly not having our prayers answered are times where we grow on our dependence for God. If everything goes our way, we can make a mistake to think that we don’t need God or even worse that we are God’s boss.

The key to patience and growing in the spiritual life will be humility — we know who we are before God and others. Although we may be tempted to pride from time to time, we will not stray too far if we ask for the virtue of humility. Just beware when you pray for humility that you will be humiliated. The school of virtue is brought to us from our Blessed Mother. We can pray and ask for her intercession. Especially during the month of October, the Church holds Mary up as our Queen and model of virtue, holiness and especially humility.

Hope you are well, praying for you daily. God Bless you!!!
Sincerely Yours,

Fr. David Aufiero
Pastor
