Pastor’s Corner

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In this week’s Gospel, the Lord teaches us to persevere in prayer. I wonder how many of us get wearied in our efforts to pray before the Lord from time to time. Prayer is meant to be done in season and out of season. That is, when things are going well for us in our lives and when things are not going so well for us, and we should get into the habit of doing this every single day.

We often fall into the habit of not praying when things are going well and when things are not going so well, we beg the Lord for an immediate sign or answer, as if He operates as an ATM. In His time, He hears and answers us, and when we pray, we have to listen. We have two ears and one month; we have to listen twice the amount of time that we speak to the Lord. We have to be open to the answer that the Lord provides for us even if it is the answer that we do not want to hear. One thing we can count on is that we will never be short of what we need, thus in the Our Father, we ask for our daily bread.

When I was on retreat this past summer, I spoke with one of the Maronite Monks from the Most Holy Trinity Monastery who said to me that everything the Lord gives us is a gift. The joys and even the sorrows that inevitably intertwine in our daily lives is a gift. Even our sufferings are a call to reach new heights.

The long and short of what I am saying, is in the words of St. Paul, fight the good fight for faith! When prayer is a drag, stick it out! Persevere, you may be closer to your answer than you think!

I hope your summer is going well. God bless you and your families.
Sincerely Yours,

Fr. David Aufiero
