Pastor’s Corner

+JMJ+
Dear Friends,
Dear Friends,
I know that the news of my transfer is not the most exciting. I can assure you that I am just as upset over this as many of you. As I mentioned in my remarks this past weekend, I have loved every minute of being your pastor. I have really built a home here and so many of you have made me feel like family. You are truly a gift!!

I thought I would take this opportunity to try and clarify some confusion over why this is happening now. Leading up to the weekend, I did not know what was happening, why this was happening ... I was just as confused. As I said, I never asked for this nor did I see it coming. I prayed so hard for this clarity, that my eyes might be open to see the Lord's will in this move. That clarity has come. There is a purpose and mission. The assignment itself makes sense in light of the vocation work that I have been doing. As chaplain to Pope Francis High School, I will be able to help foster and maintain a Catholic culture in the school while promoting vocations among our young people. Springfield also has a young adult community that is rapidly growing. My presence there will help to develop the spiritual lives of our young adults and help them also discern the Lord's call in their lives. Not to mention the parish also needs someone to breathe some life into the people. I suppose, therefore, that my gifts are needed elsewhere.

The move hurts me. It hurts because of the deep love I have for you. Deerfield is really a home for me. Nevertheless, God has a plan and we cannot be selfish. My purpose and mission is elsewhere now. Yours is to continue the good things we have begun here at Holy Family. Your mission is to stay active, connected, and live with the Spirit of God that brings light, life and joy to this community. Thank you for making this place the best place in the Diocese of Springfield!!
God bless you,
Fr. Jon
