Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
What a blessing it is to be able to return to "normal procedures" with regard to the latest COVID directives that the Bishop has issued. As I mentioned at the Masses, it was a year ago when we were able to reopen with heavy restrictions. What I thought wouldn't last 6 months turned into an entire year.

I want to just take a moment to highlight the new developments that are noteworthy. First among them is NO MASKS! Those who are vaccinated need not wear a mask, nor practice social distancing. We can finally breathe again! Yet, while it is permissible to remove your mask, if you feel more comfortable and safer by wearing it to Mass, please do so. I do not want anyone to feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Now, this also brings up the possibility of those who are not vaccinated also not wearing a mask. No one is going to police this new directive, therefore we will operate on the honor system. You will also notice that the pews are now all open and we can sit wherever we want to in the church. Another welcome change. This means that you may find yourself sitting closer to one another. Again, if it makes you somewhat nervous, please continue to wear a mask in order to protect yourself and feel safe.

Obviously, I want everyone to feel welcome, safe and comfortable. Nevertheless, I realize that pleasing everyone is an impossible task! I have done my absolute very best in the last year to make it work so that we could be open and worship together in person. I will strive to do the same as we transition back to "normal". To that end, I want to thank the volunteer ushers who have made my life so much easier during the last year! They made everything seem so smooth... my thanks to all of you ushers for that!!

There have been lots of changes in the last year. Some are welcome gifts and some are difficult as it may mean an adjustment in the way we think, pray and live our lives. All of which is simply an invitation to grow into a more mature faith and trust in God. He is the One thing that NEVER changes. Yet, at times, He asks us to change in order that we may become a more perfect reflection of His love, patience, peace, joy and so on.

May we learn from the past year, may we embrace the changes that have been made in our daily lives, our country and in our parish. In this way, may we be found to have grown into a deeper faith.
