Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
I have three things I would like to lift up this weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day. Motherhood is a beautiful vocation. In Mulieris Dignitatem, an apostolic letter written by St. John Paul II in 1988, describes the dignity of women. A mother forms her personality to that of a care giver. She becomes acutely aware of another person especially through carrying a child for nine months in her womb. This high calling to sanctity is closely related to the motherhood of Mary as she had the ultimate supreme gift and responsibility of raising her child who is Christ our Lord. The Church holds the dignity of Motherhood in highest regard, and related to our Blessed Mother, may all the mothers be blessed in their vocation for the good of their families. Happy Mother’s Day.

In other news, on this joyous occasion of Mother’s Day, we will also have our Confirmation Mass this Sunday at 5pm. We have seventeen teens receiving their Confirmation this year from Holy Family Parish. Relevant topics to faith and society were presented and it was a pleasure to journey with them. The Church teaches that the sacraments are efficacious signs of God’s grace. The sacraments do something. The effects of the Sacrament of Confirmation is that there is a deepening of the grace received at Baptism which is the presence of God in the soul. Also, there is an increased portion of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, piety, fear of the Lord and fortitude. These gifts are given to us by God. A gift given by God is meant to be given away. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are meant to help us to be a witness to a world who needs Christ. Congratulations to the class, it is an exciting day to receive this sacrament. The names of the class appear in this week's bulletin.

Lastly, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops is asking every parish in the United States to hold a Eucharistic Procession. Myself and just a handful of people met this past Monday to talk about this beautiful endeavor, and it is really exciting. We invite you to be a part of it. Our Eucharistic Procession will take place on June 11, after the 10:30am Mass. Save the date.

Please see the link below for a video about how to participate in a Eucharistic procession.

Always a pleasure to be with you and again, Happy Mother’s Day!
Peace,

Fr. David Aufiero

Corpus Christi Procession

On Corpus Christi, June 11, after the 10:30am Mass, we will have a Euchairstic Procession from Holy Family Parish to the Center of South Deerfield. We will have benediction, with a light reception to follow. All are welcome.

The following link is a page about the Eucharist on the Knights of Columbus website. If you scroll down to "Procession: How To" there is a 12 minute video on a procession.
