Pastor’s Corner

Dear Friends,
This weekend is Good Shepherd Sunday. We have an image of Jesus the Good Shepherd on the Bulletin. One of the phrases that really jumps out at me while reading the Gospel is “they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers." This is a big wake up call to us as Catholics, because we need to continue to educate ourselves in our faith Inside and outside of Mass. Through prayer, through reading articles, podcasts that support our faith and even our choice of music and entertainment. If we are living lives contrary to the faith, we will not recognize the voice of Jesus the Good Shepherd.

Priests help to point us in the direction of Jesus the Good Shepherd. The current status of vocations in the diocese is we have one seminarian and two guys we are seriously looking at for priestly vocations. All this can change. It only means that we need to pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send laborers to the vineyard. The Diocese fosters a culture of vocations to the Priesthood. This is a major action item for the Eucharistic Revival. The example of a priest in a young man’s life can be exponentially beneficial in fostering vocations. To foster more vocations, we should pray for the spiritual well-being, and health of the priest as well as an increase in vocations.

This Sunday of Good Shepherd Sunday will be an opportunity to do just that. From 2pm – 3pm, we will have a Holy Hour for vocations to the Priesthood, and for our priests in the Diocese. I hope you can come. As always, it is a joy to be with you as your Pastor. God bless you and your families.
Sincerely Yours,

Fr. David Aufiero

Please know that only Catholics may receive the Holy Eucharist. Only Practicing Catholics may receive the Holy Eucharist, that is those who go to Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation. Only practicing Catholics aware of no mortal sin may receive the Eucharist.
